Welcome Wildcats!

WOW, year two in Wildcat Country! I sincerely hope that you have each had the summer you dreamed about and then some more. We have a great year ahead of us.

I am more excited today about coming to UES than I was last year! As the top neighborhood school, I plan to continue to work with all of you to keep us there. In fact, after getting to know the students, parents, and teachers, I have no doubt that we can and will move toward becoming a 4 Star school. The talent is all around us! We just need to work smarter together for our children to make it happen! With that thought in mind, I have made some changes around the school based on instructional needs. Sadly, due to our sheer size, several grades were scattered about the campus. Now, all of our grade levels are in close proximity of one another allowing all of the teachers to plan collaboratively, organize grade level events, and build their professional communities. What a plus!!!

We welcome three new faces to our campus: Harriet Ferrell (5th), April Miles (4th), and Megan Quinn (Kindergarten). You will also see Mrs. Yearwood and Mrs. Dean in 5th, Mrs. Roberts in 3rd and Mrs. Wood in 2nd.  I know we will continue to see great things with and from these ladies. They are very talented.

Last year we celebrated four of our teachers becoming National Board Certified. This year we have our speech teachers, Mrs. Savage and Mrs. Cantrell, to add to that list. And, Ms. Pace, Mrs. Camp, and Miss Burke are working toward certification! I told you, UES Teachers Rock!!!

I am proud to tell you that 12 teachers were awarded Alliance for Education grants and the school won a state grant for Ensuring Literacy! The dedication of our staff goes beyond measure and I am so thankful for each and every one. These grants will support our efforts to provide your children with the best possible opportunities academically.

I can not wait to see your children! Please know that my door and email are always open, and you may phone anytime! I will get back to you. I will close with our theme for year:

Paula Nelson,
Principal

Mrs. Nelson loves to surprise the students at UES by dressing in costumes to greet them for the holidays.  For Halloween she was a pumpkin and Santa for Christmas. The kids love the fun.
