MEDICATIONS
All medicine must be brought to the office. Parents may request that medicine be administered during the school hours with written doctor’s orders. Appropriate forms for the doctor to sign are in the office. Never send medication with your child. REMBEMBER: We cannot give anything that has any type of drug in it unless we have a doctor’s orders. |

|
WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL
If your child is withdrawing form our school, please give us at least 24 hours notice so that we can complete the necessary paperwork.
SCHOOL VISITORS
Parents are encouraged to visit school frequently and actively participate in their child’s education. All cell phones must be turned off in the building. According to Caddo Parish Policy and for the protection of the students, all non-students are to report to the office upon entering the building where they will sign in and receive a name tag before going to the classroom. |
|
SCHOOL FEES
The school will assess each student a small fee that will be used for science, art, P.E. supplies and equipment, and other school supplies used by students. Field trips are also provided with the school fees. Student Planners and Wildcat Folders are also purchased with these fees. This fee is due by the first week of September or when you register during the year. The fee is $25.00 and should be paid by cash or money order only.
TEXTBOOKS
All textbooks are loaned to students for their use during the school year. Textbooks are to be kept clean and handled carefully. Students are required to pay for lost or damaged books. The same is true of library books. We recommend that students cover their textbooks. |
|
HOMEWORK
It is recommended that homework be given four days per week, Monday-Thursday. Homework and class work must be completed. A daily assignment pad is recommended. Homework will be used to reinforce a skill that has been taught in the classroom. We encourage students to read and write every night. At the beginning of the year, each grade level gives specific information about their homework policy. If your child is absent and you would like his assignments, you must call by 10:00 A.M. and pick assignments up after 2:00 P.M. in the office. |

BUS INFORMATION
Caddo Parish provides bus transportation for all students living more than 1 mile from the school. Student safety on the bus is a must and rules set to achieve this will be strictly enforced. Students will be referred to the principal and/or suspended from the bus for fighting, using inappropriate language, or disobeying bus drivers consistently. |

|
At no time is a student to change buses unless the parents have contacted the Office of Transportation at the Caddo Parish School Board 638-6317. Students must have a letter from a parent and approved by the principal before riding home with a friend. **Any time there is a change in a child’s transportation, the teacher should be notified in writing. This applies to buses, cars, walkers, etc. |
|
TELEPHONE, ADDRESS CHANGE
Please notify the school immediately if there is a change in your address, telephone (work, home, cell), babysitter, or person to contact in an emergency. This information is very important in case your child becomes ill, injured, or is left at school. |

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
All parents are encouraged to meet with their child’s teacher the first nine weeks of school. Papers go home Tuesdays in the Red and White Wildcat Folder and Progress Reports will go home in the middle of each nine weeks. Please examine all the papers carefully and send them back. Call the school to schedule a conference when grades start to slip or if you have any concerns. Teachers CAN NOT conference during class time but will be glad to set up an appointment with you to discuss your child’s progress at school (797-2240).
CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS
Observations should be scheduled with the classroom teacher for no longer than 30 minutes.
BIRTHDAYS
With the teacher’s permission small treats may be brought at the end of the day to celebrate student birthdays. No birthday invitations are to be passed out at school unless every child in the class is being invited. No balloons, flowers, cookie baskets, etc., will be delivered to individual children in classrooms. This is disruptive to the learning process and can cause hurt feelings. These deliveries will need to be picked up in the office at the end of the day to go home. Balloons are not allowed on buses.
SPIRIT DAY
Each Friday is Spirit Day. Students may wear their uniform bottoms and a University T-shirt (Field Day, spirit, etc.). Cheerleaders may wear their uniforms with solid red or blue leggings under anything shorter than 4 inches above the knee. Football players may wear jerseys over white T-shirts (T-shirts must be tucked in.). Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts may wear their uniform top with uniform bottoms. This is designed to show support for University Elementary. FIELD TRIPS
Field Trips are educational in purpose and are arranged by the teacher and approved by the administration. Parents are asked to help with field trips at the discretion of the teacher. Students may go on field trips with their class only. No other children (siblings, etc.) may go on a class trip.
CLOSING OF SCHOOLS
When school is closed due to inclement weather, parents need to listen to local radio and television stations for information. If we are forced to close school during the school day, information will be transmitted over local radio and TV stations. Students will be sent home their normal way. A delayed opening means that students will arrive at 10:00 a.m. |
|
