Hi Porchers,

I promised to tell you about our fishing expedition, and I will. Although, I still can't believe my friends, Rhonda and Debbie, from, (the Louisiana home page of the Porch Album), acted so petty about the whole thing.

It all started because I caught a little old bass with my cane pole and all Rhonda and Debbie could manage to pull in were a few tiny bream and catfish. I could tell they were jealous even though I was very careful not to rub it in.

I guess they would have eventually gotten over it, but, lo and behold, I hooked a bigger one. This one put up quite a fight. Could I help it that I had to pull and struggle and holler trying to wrestle it to the dock? I mean, I wouldn't have over dramatized the thing--I knew they were sulking already.

Oh, well, you can see my big bass there on the right. In the picture I've got my little bass under my foot while pretending that the big bass is saying, "Shellie is a Great Bass Fisherman!" Of course, Rhonda and Debbie proved they have no sense of humor. :-) The other picture is a closeup of just my monster bass, so you can see him in all his glory.

Now, be sure to scroll on down. To prove that I'm a kind and generous friend, I've allowed Rhonda and Debbie to post their version of the events of that day. Trust me, you'll need hip-waders before they're through. :-)

Hugs,
Shellie (The Great Bass Fisherman)

The True version of our day of fishing...

It seemed to be a good idea at the time...Three "best buds" enjoying a spring afternoon of cane pole fishing, sipping sodas and sharing girl talk. With smiles on our faces and crickets on our hooks, the fun began. Debbie was the first to catch a fish. In fact, she caught three or four before I began my catching spree. The bream and catfish were really biting!

Unfortunately, Shellie was having no luck at all. But, being the loyal friends we are, Deb and I faithfully cheered her on! I even helped Shellie dig worms on the lake bank thinking a different bait might help. And we willingly gave her one of our poles after she "damaged" hers, but that's another story. And, even when the count was Debbie-9, Rhonda-7, and Shellie-0... we didn't dare brag.

Then Shellie finally made her first catch, a nice bream, about the size of a large minnow. Her luck began to change when she pulled her next fish in. "A bass! A bass!" she shouted. I hated to burst her bubble, but someone had to tell her it was a "shad" and not a "bass." (Of course, she acted like she knew it all along. Did you know Shellie lies?)

To our surprise, Shellie's next catch was a bass...a one pound bass. You would have thought she was pulling in Johah's whale! Our day ended shortly afterwards. The dock was too small for Debbie, me, AND Shellie's ego. I hear our friend has since subscribed to "Fisherman's Digest" and joined the Lake Providence Bass Club! Oh, the difference a day makes.

Sincerely,
Rhonda
