19th Annual Chuckwagon Races

Left to right is my friend Rhonda Perry, me, and my sister Cyndie. Which reminds me, a lot of people stay confused about my two Rhondas. My sister Rhonda couldn't make the races. Her husband, Sergeant John Parker of the Texas National Guard, is currently at Fort Shelby in Hattisburg, MS. He got a two day pass and was able to meet Rhonda and their kids at our parent's house for a quick visit before he leaves for more training in California. After that, he'll return to Fort Shelby before being deployed to Iraq. Fortunately, I was able to get back and see them briefly this morning, (Monday, Sept. 6th), before they had to get back on the road. You can see Rhonda and her family further down in the journal.

Me and Rhonda with Cyndie's husband, Newt! I just wish I had more pics from the opening ceremony but I was operating my video camera instead. My sweet nephew Specialist James Rushing Guenard was honored for his tour in Iraq. He entered in his camo's on his horse with two other riders carrying American Flags to the tune of Toby Keith's "The American Soldier". After the announcer introduced him, we saluted the flag and sang the national anthem. There wasn't a dry eye on the bluffs!

Wow! These cowgirls look ready to ride. Now, who do you figure they are?

What do you know? It's us!

One more picture before we hit the saddles.

All right, all ready, let's ride!

Smile for a close-up, girls!

This sweet little thing could outride all of us. Her name is Michalia and she is five years old--but she rides that horse like an old cowpoke!

Yep! That's me on that there bull. (Big grin)

Hold on Shellie!

Cyndie and Rhonda talked me into this.

Unfortunately, I couldn't hear the operator--but my good buddies could! They told me later that everytime he hollered, "Do you want to go faster"-- my loyal friends would say, "Yeah! She said yeah!"

Have mercy...I'm going down...

OW! That hurt! (Thanks, girls! I owe you one.)

These three guys were watching my bull-riding experience. The two on the left, (loyal friends of the Cyndie and Rhonda mode), were cooking up a plan for us to all holler, "Larry, Larry, Larry"! That's Larry on the right...

And this is Larry gettin' it done on that wild bull!

That's it for this year! But never fear...if the Good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll be back same time, same place next year!

...back to LP we went and I hurried down to Mama's to see my other sister, Rhonda. Here's her beautiful family. Front row left to right: Blair, Me, Rhonda, and Blake...Back row left to right: Omar, (friend of the family), Sergeant John Parker and the baby of the family, Bradley Parker, (standing on the hearth.)

Papa and Mama join us for a group picture...(By the way, Blair is holding Landry, the Parker's new lab puppy. What's with this family and labs, huh?)

Me and Rhonda, (a.k.a. Nana), I miss this girl!

That's it for today. Take care folks!

Hugs,
Shellie
