Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA . Mr. Shackelford was born in Valliant, Oklahoma on May 14, 1929 to Lela Mae and John Clifton Shackelford. He took his final journey home on July 2, 2008. Luther graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and went on to have many successful careers starting with Charles Machine Works in Perry, Oklahoma. He went on to own the Ditch Witch franchise in Alexandria, Louisiana from 1962 to 1974. For the past thirty-five years, he was a real estate broker, first in Shreveport, Louisiana and then in Monroe/West Monroe with Shackelford-French Century 21. Since Shack never met a stranger, this was the perfect job for him. He loved every client and finding a home for them came with the honor of getting to know them, which he cherished. When asked once when he was going to retire, he replied, "I thought I was." Always a volunteer, Shack willingly served his church in a leadership capacity, served as president of the Lion's Club obtaining a lifetime membershi p, and served as a member of the Rapides Parish Police Jury. Always working for a good cause, he took an active part in many fundraisers for the Easter Seal Campaign, Ouachita Christian School, Camp Ch-Yo-Ca, Harding University, and many other organizations. Shack was an avid sports fan and athlete, and participated in every sport but basketball was his first love. While serving in the Marines during the Korean War, he was honored to be a part of the 3rd Marine Division basketball team dedicated to entertaining the troops and boosting morale. His love of basketball has been a legacy he handed down to his family. His sons enjoyed competitive basketball and ten of his grandchildren played basketball for Ouachita Christian School. In 2004, the Luther Shackelford family was honored with receiving the YMCA award for Outstanding Family of the Year. This award is what "Papaw Shack" was all about, serving his family, his church, and his community until God called him home to serve eternally with Him. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love remains strong. He joins his siblings Hazel Daniel, J.C. Shackelford, Wilbur Shackelford, and Everett "Peanut" Shackelford in their heavenly home. He leaves behind his precious wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Jo Durham Shackelford. Three sons: Kevin Shackelford and wife, Stacy; Kerry Shackelford, and Jeremy Shackelford and wife, Kim. SISTER EILEEN CORCORAN Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road Monroe, LA On Wednesday, July 2, 2008, Sister Eileen Corcoran, OSF, passed away at St. Francis Medical Center after serving more than seven decades as a Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. "Sr. Eileen was a woman with strong faith and an ambassador for physicians. It was important to her to spend time with patients and staff just to hear their stories and their joys and to be a friend in time of need. Born on September 30, 1913 in Dromdeega, Ireland and one of six children, Sr. Eileen Corcoran joined seven other Franciscan sisters October 25, 1937 after setting sail from La Harve, France in route to the United States to begin a new life at the St. Francis Sanitarium, today's St. Francis Medical Center. Throughout her years of service, Sr. Eileen participated in many local nursing activities as a nurse and caregiver including serving a four-year term on the Board of the Louisiana State Nursing Association. " During her time at St. Francis, Sr. Eileen witnessed many changes in healthcare and watched as the hospital evolved while still preserving the rich heritage started in 1913 when the six original Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady sisters arrived in Louisiana. In 2000, Sr. Eileen retired from St. Francis Medical Center but continued to stay actively involved in the community and hospital. She spent her retirement by playing the piano and guitar, taking walks around the facility and providing "tender loving care" to her many cats that found solace in the Convent's courtyard. In 2004, Sr. Eileen celebrated 70 years of service with the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. Sr. Eileen is survived by her sister, Sr. Marie Edana Corcoran, OSF, a member of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Order, three nieces Margaret, Mary and Chrissy, and her life-long friends and caregivers Sharon Burton, LaVerne Patrick, Louise Turner and Angela Jones. VODKA This is too funny - I still have tears in my eyes! Finally, a chain letter that I don't mind forwarding. It's funny (don't break chain) A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor replied, 'When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nerv ous, I take a sip.' So next Sunday he took the monsignor's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon his return to his office after the mass, he found the following note on the door: 1) Sip the vodka, don't gulp. 2) There are 10 commandments, not 12. 3) There are 12 disciples, not 10. 4) Jesus was consecrated, not constipated. 5) Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass. 6) We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C. 7) The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the spook. 8) David slew Goliath; he did not kick the shit out of him. 9) When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass. 10)We do not refer to the cross as the 'Big T.' 11)When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said, 'Take this and eat it for it is my body.' He did not say 'Eat me'. 12)The Virgin Mary is not called 'Mary with the Cherry'.. 13)The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God. 14)Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter's not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's. The Origination of this letter is unknown, but it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on. The one who breaks the chai n will have bad luck. Do not keep this letter. Do not send money just forward it to twelve of your friends to whom you wish good luck and a great laugh. You will see that something good happens to you four days from now if the chain is not broken
