SHIRLEY HAROLD BRADLEY Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Funeral services for Mr. Shirley Harold Bradley, 93, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 2, 2007, in the chapel at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Stan Fortenberry and Thomas Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the Mausoleum Chapel. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Bradley died Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at Grace Cottage in Spring, TX. He was born December 13,1913 in Crowville, LA to Georgia Gilbert Bradley and Mary Alma Shirley Bradley. Mr. Bradley was a salesman most of his life beginning at age 13 at Walters Store in Winnsboro, LA. He was owner/operator, along with his brother, W. A. Bradley, of The Stag Shop in West Monroe. He was a noted salesman and counselor with Central State Life Insurance in Monroe. His last selling position was at Gay Clothing in Monroe where he continued to make many friends in his usual friendly manner. Before and during World War II, he was a fireman/engineer for the Southern Railway Co. He had a variety of stories about the troops, ammunition, etc. that they carried for the war effort. His route was Meridian, MS, Birmingham, AL, and Chattanooga, TN. For a number of years he was a member of the West Ouachita Church of Christ before moving to Texas. His daughter and son-in-law were privileged to have him live with them for 4 years and 9 months. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Ruth Mosely Bradley and his second wife of 23 years, Frances Alexander Bradley; his parents; 3 brothers: Genie, Sam E. and W. A. Bradley; 1 sister: Juanita Alma Atkins. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Alma Jackson and her husband, Thomas of Spring, TX; adoptive family, Chuck and Beverly, Melissa and Charlie Cambre of West Monroe, LA; step children: June and George Hare of Houston, TX, Larry and Pam Alexander of Pineville, LA; two sisters: Audrey Georgia Evans of Baton Rouge, LA and Marjorie Ann Bristley of Houston, TX; 2 sisters-in-law: Bess Mosely Blissard of Pearl, MS and Libby Andrews Mosely of Aurora, CO; 1 brother-in -law, Peter Gernon of Metarie, LA; 4 grandchildren: Kim and Jett McFalls of College Station, TX; Rod and Annie Jackson of Bryan,TX; Rhonda and Tim Dudley of Magnolia, TX; Ron and Julie Jackson of Woodlands, TX; 9 great grand children,1 great-great granddaughter; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends. Louisiana, she was the daughter of Robert Hamilton and Ollie Surrett Hamilton. She worked as a legal secretary for attorney Sam Brooks, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of El Dorado and the Womens Circle group. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lurline Dunay. Mrs. Bright is survived by her husband of 60 years, Loomis G. Bright of El Dorado; a son, Kevin L. Bright and his wife Martha of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a daughter, Patty Sue Davis of Glenpool, Oklahoma; brother, Harlan Hamilton of Crossett, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Holly Moore and Trenton Davis; and two great-grandsons, Logan Anthony Moore and Triston Edward Dean Davis, all of Glenpool, Oklahoma. Worth Gun Club where she enjoyed preparing meals for the weekend shoots. Mrs. Cole was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and belonged to the Sunshine Bible Class. She loved playing all types of cards, board games, and word puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Al Cole, whom she was devoted to caring for during his declining health. She was also preceded by her parents, Ollie and Ida Lindsey; sister and brothers, Blanche Gull, Dub Lindsey, Guy Adkins, and Jack Lindsey. RAY E. COLEMAN Cox Funeral Home Delhi, LA Ray Coleman, 73, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Rayville, LA. Mr. Coleman was born May 8, 1933 in Homer, La. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and proudly served his country in the Navy from 1955 to 1957. Mr. Coleman's active duty service included assignment to the USS Bennington out of Sacramento, CA. Upon the conclusion of his active duty service, Mr. Coleman transferred to the United States Naval Reserves where he served with distinction until 1961. Mr. Coleman enjoyed serving others through his military career, and later worked as a state surveyor. He eventually settled in Delhi, LA where he became an active member of the Delhi United Methodist Church. It was within his church family that he found such fellowship and peace. It was common for Mr. Coleman to drive people to their doctor's appointments, take them to the grocery store, or just offer friends a ride. He will be remembered for his unselfish kindness towards others. One of Horace's happiest days was back in January when his beloved New Orleans Saints made it to N.F.C. Championship Game. Dewey was released early from the Marine Corp and accompanied the body of his brother Huey home after he was killed in the line of duty. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Delaine Laffoon and by his brothers and sisters, Harvey, Raymond, Henry, Mildred Laffoon, Thelma Gibbs, Velma Hatten, Louise Stringer, and Tennie Price. Gilbert served in the US Army during the Korean War as a member of the 79th T-port unit. He was a member of Sterlington First Baptist Church. He retired after working over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator. Gilbert enjoyed working on projects with his backhoe, wood working in his shop, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Teague Simpson; his son, David Simpson; brothers, Audie, Thomas and Lynn Simpson; sister, Barbara Ann Simpson; and grandson, Tyler Townsend. He is survived by his brother, Charles Simpson and wife, Margaret; his sisters: Viola Moore and husband, Fred; Betty Poston and husband, James and Sue Killingworth and husband, Ron. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and many friends. Mr. Simpson was a devoted and loving husband to Fay Simpson. Whit Stodghill officiating. William V. "Bill" Spires died March 1, 2007 in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Bill was born December 22, 1921, in Midland, Texas to Leslie George "Shorty" Spires and Cecil Margaret Gates Spires. They resided in Andrews, Texas, on the family ranch. He attended school in Midland, TX., until the family moved to Lovington, New Mexico, where he finished high school. Active in rodeo and football, he earned all star honors and a football scholarship to Texas Tech University. At the onset of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Graduating at the top of his cadet class, he was given the privilege of advanced combat fighter instructor. He was called to serve in Germany in 1944. During his deportation from the States, he spent a brief time in Baton Rouge where he met and married Eleanor Compton Davenport of Mer Rouge. Mr Bill spent two years in Germany and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. Mr. Bill returned to La Cruces, New Mexico, to continue his education at New Mexico A & M, now New Mexico State University. He was an organizer and president of one of the first intercollegiate rodeo associations. After receiving his degree he landed employment at Hercules Motor Company, Odessa, Texas, in 1949, where he received the Man of the Year award for his efforts. In 1955, he moved his family to Lamesa, Texas, where his call to flying turned to agricultural aviation. Spires Flying Service was established in 1958. Mr. Bill purchased Mer Rouge Air Service in 1965 with operations in both Texas and Louisiana until 1967 when the family moved to Mer Rouge. In addition to his flying business, Mr. Bill was plant manager for American Cyanamid Fertilizer Co., where he was honored as salesman of the year in 1968. He operated the air service until 1980, when he retired from flying to pursue his personal farming and livestock operation. He spent the last 26 years with his wife, kids, and grandkids, showing and training horses and cowboys. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor Davenport Spires; four sons; Dr. William Spires, Jr., of Shreveport, LA., Dr. Timothy D. Spires and wife, Kathleen, John G. Spires and wife, Frances, and Dr. Allen L. Survivors are his wife of over 48 years, Wanda Springfield Thames of West Monroe; daughter, Pam Thames Kemp and husband Warren of Greenwell Springs, LA; grandsons, Joey Kemp and Charlie Kemp; sister-in-law, Mary Thames; nieces and nephews. Mr. Thames graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a B.A. degree in Accounting. He retired from A&LM Railroad and also worked for Olincraft. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school and was a deacon. He currently was the chairman of the Pulpit Committee and church treasurer. Mr. Thames loved his church and his family. He was devoted husband, father and grandfather whose grandsons were the light of his life. Mrs. Carroll was a wonderful wife of 53 years, mother, grandmother, and sister. Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her parents, George and Blanche Lambert; and two brothers, George and Gene Lambert. Mr. Frantom passed away March 8, 2007 at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. He was the 11th of 11 children. He was a Captain in the United States Army. After retirement he was a successful cotton and rice farmer. He was a 32nd degree Mason with 50 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Minnie Lee Frantom; and his son, John Frantom, Sr. Mr. Frantom is survived by his brother, Mr. Calvert Frantom; grandchildren, John Frantom, Jr., Channon Pratt, and Aaron Frantom; and several nieces and nephews. W. , and a host of loving young ladies who adopted Nanaw as their "Special Grandmother". Mrs. Ruby spent her early years as a teacher in Jackson Parish Schools. She was also an active member of Quitman Baptist Church having served as Church Treasurer for forty years.
