Elkin, age 80, will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Gill First National Funeral Home with Rev. Marion Collier officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2007, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Gill First National Funeral Home Sanctuary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hollis W. Tarver and Ruby Ann Tarver, two brothers, Ellis and John Tarver; one sister Eleanor T. Marionneaux. Faye is survived by one son David Elkin and wife Diane of Lafayette, LA.; two granddaughters Jessica Schexnayder and Amy Christoph of Lafayette, LA. and five great grandchildren of Lafayette, LA, two sisters, Audrey Joiner of Monroe, LA and Bettye McKennie of Mobile, AL, many other relatives and a host of friends. Faye started to work in the Franklin Parish Clerk of Courts office in 1961. She was elected Clerk of Court in 1984 and served 16 years until she retired in 2000. She never met a stranger and was a true public servant for the people of Franklin parish. She later moved to Lafayette, LA. to be close to her son and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Pallbearers will be: Dr. Jay Busby, Thurman Dickey, Roger Elkin, James McLemore, Randy Shirley, and A. A. "Skipper" Willison. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest "Bubba" Baccarini, J. W. Ms. Lauve was born on January 10, 1938 in Monroe, LA, and passed away on January 31, 2007, at St. Francis North Hospital following a brief illness. Ms. Lauve was a lifelong resident of Monroe and graduated from Neville High School and attended Southern Methodist University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gama, Monroe Junior League, Daughers of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and a CASA volunteer. Ms. Lauve was a homemaker and, at one time, wrote for the Monroe Morning World, and a former sales associate for Steinmart and Dillards Department Store. She was preceded in death by her parents, Travis Oliver, Jr. and Katherine Morrison Oliver. BETTIE SUE TRIMBLE MABRAY Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, LA Bettie Sue Trimble Mabray died on January 31, 2007, in Monroe, LA, after a courageous battle against Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. She was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, February 8, 1923, the daughter of Lena Goodwin Trimble and John D. Trimble. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Jack P. Mabray, Monroe; two daughters: Melinda Mabray Wright and her husband, John Harvey Wright III, of McAllen, TX; and Mary Amanda Mabray Hardwick and her husband, Jon W. Hardwick, of Monroe; two sons: J. Patton Mabray, Jr., Newellton, LA; and John T. Mabray and his wife, Catherine Cole Mabray, of Lynchburg, VA; eight grandchildren: John H. Wright, IV, and his wife, Edie, of San Antonio, TX; Amanda Mabray Wright, San Antonio, TX; William Mead Hardwick, of Dallas, TX; Jon Marshall Hardwick, Monroe; Wilson Trimble Mabray, Monroe; Cole Mabray Harbert and her husband, Raymond J. Harbert, of New York City; Michal Patton Mabray, Lynchburg, VA; J. Trimble Mabray, Jr., Lynchburg, VA; and one great-grandson: John Harvey "Jack" Wright V, of San Antonio; two sisters: Jean Turner Brewer of Jackson, MS; Mary Maier of Fayetteville, AR; one brother: John D. She attended Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA, and graduated from the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In 1947, she and her family moved to Newellton, LA, where Bettie was active in the Newellton Union Church and in community activities until the family moved to Monroe in 1960. Bettie was a contributing member of various community organizations in Monroe, as well as a faithful member of the congregations of First Presbyterian and Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Louisiana, and also served on the Board of Trustees, Lyon College, Batesville, AR. She was first of all a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, whose presence filled our lives with happiness and gave us a legacy of faith. Beloved by friends and family as a fun-loving woman of keen intellect, vivacious spirit, and generous soul, she will be remembered as an example of what it means to live life to the fullest with deep faith in God. She was a faithful steward of God's many blessings upon her, and, therefore, a blessing to us all. Her kindness and compassion touched many lives. The family expresses deep appreciation to Dr. Marshall Leary and Dr. David Barnes for their compassionate, loving care and medical expertise; and to the staff of Northeast Louisiana Cancer Institute, whose personal attention was a source of great comfort and encouragement; and to Gracie Smith and Jonas Ervin whose cheerful countenance brightened our days. He was in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959. Mr. Purdy was retired from Rack Service Wholesale after 20 years. He was owner of Purdy's Lounge and Hardy Mart Grocery. DON NEWTON ROBERTSON Mansfield, LA Memorial services for Mr. Don Newton Robertson, 88, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, LA. Officiating will be Brother Carl Gulde, assisted by Brother Joe Waggener. Mr. Robertson died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Robertson was born on November 20, 1918 in Pelican, LA. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1937. Mr. Robertson served his country during World War Two as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater. He worked in managerial positions in several companies in DeSoto Parish, including Nabors Trailer Company, Gulf Oil, and the Laffitte Lumber Company. He was married to Shirley Virginia Laffitte, whom he met while both were working at Nabors Trailers, on June 20, 1948. They lived in the Carmel Community of DeSoto Parish before moving to Shreveport. Late in life, Mr. Robertson moved to Monroe to be near his son's family. Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Robertson, his parents, Henry Clay Robertson, Sr., and Ina Williams Robertson, his father and mother-in-law, Mr. Ernest Andrew Laffitte, Sr., and Reba Shelton Laffitte, his brother and sister-in-law, Henry Clay Robertson, Sr., and Jessie Roark Robertson, his sister and brother-in-law, Claudine Robertson Love and Frost Johnson Love, brother-in-law, Ernest Andrew "Sonny" Laffitte, Jr., nephews, Bill Robertson and Joel Laffitte, and niece Linda Robertson Cohen. He is survived by his son, Clay Andrew Robertson and his wife, Karla, of Oak Grove, LA, one granddaughter, Claire Alyse Robertson, sister-in-law Bettye Laffitte of Mansfield, LA, nephew Joe Robertson and his wife Stephanie of Oklahoma City, OK, niece Lori Laffitte Byrd and her husband Steve of Arlington, TX, nephew Alan Laffitte of Costa Mesa, CA, nephew Gus Laffitte and his wife Debbie of Grand Cane, LA, niece Gail Laffitte Strickland and her husband Michael of Vicksburg, MS, and cousin Rose Margaret Hamilton Tyler and her husband David of Monroe, LA, and his Boston terrier, Rocky. Sports were Don's hobby. A football letterman in high school, Don went on to become an active member of the Mansfield High School Quarterback Club. After graduation, he played semi-professional baseball in the Shreveport and Mansfield area. In 1951-52, he played on a championship softball team in Mansfield. In later years, he took up golf and was a member of the Mansfield and East Ridge country clubs. He was a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox and all L.S.U. sports. He attended both the L.S.U. football games of Billy Cannon's era and the famed L.S.U.-Auburn "Earthquake Game" of 1988. Mr. Robertson's other interests included drinking coffee, and playing bridge and dominos with his friends, reading Westerns, and caring for his Boston terrier. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the church, public library, or charity of your choice. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Louisiana, and also served on the Board of Trustees, Lyon College, Batesville, AR. She was first of all a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, whose presence filled our lives with happiness and gave us a legacy of faith. Beloved by friends and family as a fun-loving woman of keen intellect, vivacious spirit, and generous soul, she will be remembered as an example of what it means to live life to the fullest with deep faith in God. She was a faithful steward of God's many blessings upon her, and, therefore, a blessing to us all. Her kindness and compassion touched many lives. Mr. Nastasi was born November 26, 1950 in Quantico, VA and passed away Thursday, February 1, 2007, at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. He was a resident of Monroe for over thirty-five years and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Nastasi is survived by his father, Retired Col. CHARLES R. "DICK" PEELER Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Mr. Charles R. "Dick" Peeler passed away at St. Francis Medical Center after a courageous battle against injury and illness on Thursday, February 1, 2007. Mr. Peeler was born May 15, 1923 in Gloversville, NY. He graduated from Wallkill High School where he was a member of the choir and the student government. He was the official artist and lay-out designer for the high school yearbook. Mr. Peeler served four years in the U. S. Army for his country in WWII, including being in the first wave of U.S. soldiers to invade Normandy at Omaha Beach on D-Day, as well as the Northern France Rhineland area. He was awarded medals of good conduct and the sharp shooter badge. Mr. Peeler worked as a tool and dye design engineer for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, CA. He then went on to become a senior design engineer for the I.T.T. Corporation until his retirement. Mr. Peeler was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Griffin, and by his loving and devoted wife and best friend, Harriette. They were very happily married for forty-eight years, and he often referred to her as "the best thing that ever happened to him." Together they raised eight children. He was first of all, a man of great integrity, and a loving devoted father, husband and grandfather. He filled our lives with his presence of love. He had a unique gift with all living creatures, even "wild" animals and birds who "adopted" him through the years. He was an avid gardener and everything he planted bloomed under his gentle touch. He was also an artist and an accomplished woodcrafts-man and an advisor for Handyman Club & Magazine of America. He was beloved by family and friends alike, and will always be remembered for his examples of integrity, love, and strength of character. Mr. Peeler is survived by his sons, Thomas Kelley, Scott Peeler, Danny Peeler, and Richard Peeler; daughters, Jeanette Kelley, Sandra Blackburn, Marie Paloma, and Joy Novak; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially loved his daughter-in-law, Angela Peeler, who lovingly cared for him after his wife's passing and through his illness. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2006, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Gerald Lewis officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at Golden Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Orr, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Sunday February 4, 2007, at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II, having served from 1940-1945. He was self employed from 1945 as a truck lessor before retiring in 1987. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, and taught the five year old Sunday School class for 25 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth K. Orr; parents, M.V. & Virginia Orr; sister, Elizabeth Tarver; and brother, George N. Orr. Following graduation she taught at Plain Dealing Academy for 17 years and then at Benton Elementary and Middle Schools for 16 years. She loved teaching children, it was truly her calling. She treated all of the children equally and had special relationships with her students Ida married Billy Terrell White on June 23, 1972. They were married 34 years and had two children. They were definitely her pride and joy. She was more than a mother, she was a friend that put everything she had into her children. She was a faithful member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and had a deep love for her church family who helped carry her through her battle with cancer. She had an unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and is now resting in his arms. Her parents Forrest "Cole" and Merrell Davis preceded her in death. Surviving Ida are her husband, Billy T. White; daughter, Lynda Gail White; son, Steven White; sister, Colette Geddes and husband Ronnie; brothers, Bo Davis and wife Bonnie, Chuck Davis and wife Joy, David Davis and wife Mary, Rick Davis and wife Paula, Robert Davis and wife Lynn and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who adored her. Mr. Lipp was born in Pioneer, LA on March 15, 1909 and passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Plantation Health Care Center in Lake Jackson, TX. Mr. Lipp was publisher of The West Carroll Gazette for 45 years and also published The Franklin Sun and Delhi Dispatch newspapers during his business career. His 1932 West Carroll Gazette was named Louisiana's most outstanding weekly newspaper by the Louisiana Press Association, and in 1974 he received the LPA'S President's award for outstanding service. Always active in and supportive of Oak Grove and West Carroll Parish, Mr. Lipp was instrumental in attracting industry, drainage, and hospital service for the parish. He also was an active member of Oak Grove Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Lipp was a past president of Louisiana Press Association. During World War II, he served as co-chairman of the parish's War Finance Committee. He also served on state and congressional advisory boards. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Geraldine Fitzgerald Lipp; parents Leopold and Anna Mabel Lipp; brothers, Kenneth and Marion T. "Hawk" Lipp; sisters, Lucille Jarrell and Edith Foss, and son-in-law, Roy Wayne Vining. DR. EVELYN ALBRITTON Kilpatrick Funeral Home Farmerville, LA Funeral services for Dr. Evelyn G. Albritton, age 78, of Ruston, La. will be held at 3:00PM February 11, 2007 at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Downsville La. Officiating will be Rev. J.D. Stakes and Rev. David Barkley under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, Louisiana. Mrs.. Albritton was born on July 21, 1928 in Calhoun, La. and passed away on February 8, 2007. Mrs. Albritton started teaching elementary school at the age of 18 in 1945 in Hollyridge, Louisiana. She then moved to Union Parish to teach at the old Wilhite Elementary school. Mrs. Albritton taught in a one room school house in Montana before she found her passion for special education at the CP (cerebral palsy) school in Monroe, Louisiana. She received her masters degree at Northwestern State University and moved to Thibodaux, Louisiana to teach and work on her doctorate in communitive disorders at the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon receiving her PHD, she took her love of teaching to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then spent the last few years of teaching at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After retirement and moving back to Louisiana, she continued teaching at Louisiana Tech in Speech Pathology on a part time basis and was asked to continue on full time. After her second retirement, Evelyn spent her time with her husband, sitting on the porch watching the wildlife scamper in the backyard around the pond. Evelyn touched many lives while she resided on this earth. She was the ultimate caring and loving wife and mother. She became a surrogate mother to many and the number of children and adults she taught cannot be counted. Evelyn will be greatly missed. Her smile could light up a room and her knowledge was contagious. Dr. Albritton is survived by her husband of 41 years: Norwood Albritton; son: Carl N. He was an automotive salesman for many years. A veteran of WWII, he served as a sergent in the Army in the Pacific Theatre of operations. He is preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lee Nix; his parents, John Samuel Nix and Dixie Reynolds Nix; 3 brothers, T. J. Nix, Bilbo Nix and Sam Nix, Jr.; 2 sisters, Camille Wilkinson and Myrtle Fenn and his late wife, Rosa May Nix. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Suzanne Nix of Oak Grove; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kay Nix of West Monroe, Louisiana; grandson and his wife, Brad and Betsy Nix of Oak Grove; grandson and his wife, Kyle and Shannon Nix of Oak Grove; grandson, T. WILLIAM TAYLOR ATTEBERRY Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Services for William Taylor Atteberry,89, of Bastrop, LA will be 2:00PM Sunday February 11, 2007 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home with Brother Rick Crandall officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road. William Taylor Atteberry was born May 29, 1917, in Aliceville Alabama. He was the 10th of 11 children born to John Bell Atteberry & Fannie Florence Turnipseed Atteberry. He was a graduate of Crowley High School in 1936; he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was member of the 156th Infantry Louisiana National Guard Unit. He married Eunice M. Abercrombie in March of 1941. They lived in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He worked for Union Producing Company. In February of 1942, he joined the United States Army, serving in the Signal Core as a Staff Sergeant and was a World War II veteran. IN 1944 he went overseas and participated in the European Theatre of Operations and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. He was honorably discharged on October 23rd of 1945. After returning home he resumed his work for Union Producing Company in Tinsley, Mississippi. The couple had two daughters, Mary Ann and Marie. The family moved to West Monroe, Louisiana, in September of 1958. He worked for Pennzoil-United serving as a production foreman and later as Area Production & Drilling Superintendent for the Mississippi-Louisiana area. He retired after 40 years on June 30, 1981; and moved to Horseshoe Lake in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. At the time of his death he was living at Cherry Ridge Nursing Home in Bastrop. Preceding him in death were; His wife of 34 years Eunice; his daughter, Mary Ann Atteberry; his parents, John and Florence Atteberry; and his brothers, Norman, John, David, Thomas, Charles & Harry Atteberry; and his sisters Elizabeth Atteberry, Olivia Martel, Mary Ella Anding and Francis Greer. Survived by; His wife Anna of West Monroe; his daughter Marie E. Atteberry Holsten of Enid, Oklahoma; two grand children Asia Holsten-Stephens and Taylor William Holsten, both of Enid, OK. SOPHIA LEACH BLANKS Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe, LA Sophia Leach Blanks, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Monroe for almost fifty years, died on February 6, 2007. She was the loving wife for forty eight years, and recently the widow, of Edel Faulkner Blanks, Jr. Sophia attended Newcomb College in New Orleans, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity. She later received her Masters degree from Northeast Louisiana University. She taught English at the university, and served as editor of the school's literary magazine. Prior to her retirement in 2005, she was a successful realtor with John Rea Realty for twenty years. She was also a contributing writer and photographer for Delta Style and author of the "Sophiaty" section of this publication. Sophia was active in the cultural and civic fabric of Monroe for many years. She served on the initial board of the Masur Museum of Art, as well as the Beautification Committee for the City of Monroe. Sophia had a great passion for literature and the arts, but treasured her family and friends above all. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edel Faulkner Blanks III and Bari, her daughter and son-in-law, Sophia Blanks Griffies and Scott, her grandchildren, Christian Wolfe Blanks, Colin Edel Blanks, and Elizabeth Rogers Griffies, her sister and brother-in-law, Duane Leach Page and John, all of New Orleans; and her sister-in-law and her husband, Virginia Blanks Simoni and Dick, of Menlo Park, California. Gannaway, his devoted wife of 58 years, brothers Leslie Gannaway and Guy Gannaway Sr., and sister Mildred Gannaway. He is survived by one sister, Anne Gannaway; six children: Milann Gannaway and husband John Hoy, Gay Brantley and husband James, Judy Willis and husband Col. Billy grew up in Monroe and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School, and received bachelors and masters degrees from NLU. He married Frances Smith in 1944 and they raised a family of six children. He was employed for many years by Cruthurd's Inc. He instituted and managed the Monroe Sheltered Workshop for 25 years. During World War II, although trained as a fighter pilot, he was transferred with the first 100 in his class to the transport division of the Army Air Corps and spent over a year flying all kinds of aircraft across the US, the Atlantic, and the Pacific. In 1944, he became a "Hump" pilot, flying the China- Burma-India route. He flew 78 round trip missions over the Himalayas, most under terrible weather conditions. He received numerous flying medals and qualified for the Distinguished Flying Cross. He stayed active in the Air Force until 1947 and retired from the AF reserves in 1978 as Lt. Colonel. Billy was a loyal, long time member of Memorial United Methodist Church and lived his faith daily. He was extremely community minded and served on many boards including the Monroe City School Board for almost 20 years, the boards of ARCO, G.B. Cooley and many more. He was an member of t
