PHILLIP S. FISHMAN Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Phillip S. Fishman, loving husband of Janet Fishman died on October 3rd, 2006. He was preceded in death by his daughter Carla Fishman and his brother Sterling Fishman and his sister Shirley Cohen. He is survived by his wife, Jan and their four children and their spouses: Dr. Mike and Pam Lary of Amarillo, TX., Dr. Ivan and Melissa Bank of New Orleans, LA., Bruce and Cindy Bernbaum of Dallas, TX and Mike and Susie Husted of Monroe, LA. A niece, Amy Fishman Hansen and her husband Mads. Phil had sixteen grandchildren: James and Sarah Lary, Jason and Helen Lary, Hunter and Amanda Ramsey, Taylor, Lindsey, Griffin, and Riley Bank, Abby and Zoe Bernbaum and Emily, Mickel, and Molly Husted who will miss him terribly. Phil was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army. He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1946. He moved to Monroe, LA. in 1949 and worked in the women's retail business and later owned a successful commercial real estate business that still exists. Even as an adult, he earned two degrees in history from Northeast Louisiana University. Phil was an accomplished athlete into his 70s'. He played college baseball and pursued a life long love of the sport. He pitched for the Jaycees for over 46 years in a fast pitch league until the age of 76. Phil was born in St. Louis, Missouri and never failed to track the St. Louis Cardinals until the day he died. He also had a great love of the friends at his health club. With each others' help, they all stayed in shape, through the years. Phil was a leader in the community, having served as President of Temple B'nai Israel Congregation, and as a member of the Humane Society of North Louisiana. Phil was a generous person who received great pleasure in donating to many causes or simply buying a meal or medications for those in need. One of Phil's greatest joys was his love of travel and especially sharing this with his family. There are many countless memories of travels to far away exotic places with the ones he loved and those who loved him. He knew these vacations were far more valuable than the times "away from it all". These family gatherings created happy memories for all those close to his heart and will be cherished forever. A visitation will be held at 5:00pm and a memorial service will be held at 6:00pm, on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Mulhearn Funeral Home on 2308 Sterlington Road. MEGAN MCCALL MCKNIGHT Memorial Services Megan was born in Eureka, California on December 26, 1989. She passed away on September 16, 2006 at St. Jude's Cancer Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. after an eight-month battle with Leukemia. Megan was the daughter of Paul and Kaye McKnight, founders of the Sober Nest Recovery Homes in Monroe, LA. Despite her illness, Megan also worked very hard at these homes. She was always busy at helping others with their general needs. Megan attended Cypress Point Elementary School before moving to West Monroe where she attended Woodlawn Elementary School,, Calhoun Middle School and West Ouachita High School. Due to her Downs Syndrome. Megan was able to achieve higher standards than what was expected. She was the only one that did not know that she actually had Downs Syndrome. One of her favorite activities was going to Fast Track Speedway in Chatham, LA., where she came to watch her dad race weekly. Because of her dedication to the drivers, they have dedicated the Spooky 50 Race in her honor on October 21, 2006. Her three favorite drivers were Bubba Mullins, Doug Murphy, and Steve Howard, leaving her dad in fourth place. Megan also enjoyed Mt. Vernon's Youth Group and playing basketball on their teams. She was able to attend her very first high school prom, which was one of the biggest highlights of her life just before her illness. Megan taught many people the real meaning of unconditional love. She found good in everyone and everything. Because she was so special to all of us, we, the McKnight family are asking everyone to please come and help us celebrate her memorial service that will be uplifting and untraditional - as Megan was. Memorial service will be held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 8 miles out on Jonesboro Road, (look for sign and turn left - just before Woodlawn Elementary School) on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Because of Megan's love for flowers and plants, we are requesting that you bring a live plant to be planted in her garden or bring finger foods and pastries for the fellowship that will take place after the service. If anyone would like to make a donation to help offset her expenses due to the lengthy illness, it can be made to Capital One Bank - Kaye McKnight Building Fund - Account # 5730719878. Megan leaves behind her loving parents, four brothers, four sisters, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and most of all her loving aunt Edith Tidwell. The McKnight family would like to extend warm thanks to everyone that helped us get through this difficult time.
