Services for Norma Elaine McCallum Sumrall, 76, of Swartz, LA, will be at 2:00PM, Friday, June 2, 2006, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA, with Brother Wayne James officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Sumrall, a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School, was born February 12, 1930, in Monroe, LA and died May 30, 2006, at her residence. She was a true friend that was always there for you. She never expected anything in return. She was never a mother but a mother to many. Norma always loved animals. All who knew her loved her and will miss her. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Willie Sumrall; brothers and sisters-in-law, Grady and Ruth McCallum, Charles and Elaine McCallum, Kenneth and Carylon McCallum, Alan McCallum, Phillip McCallum and Richard McCallum; sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy Stout and Aline and Wayne James; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Poindexter, Stephen Perry, Douglas Stout, Casey Womack, Jesse Womack, and Jason Stout. Mrs. Finley was a graduate of Calhoun High School and received her B.S. degree in Nursing from Northwestern St. University in Natchitoches, LA. She started her career at St. Francis Medical Center and served thirty years at Glenwood Regional Medical Center serving as Head Nurse of Surgery, ASU and Recovery before her retirement. She was a member of the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. Survivors include her children, Susan Cox and husband Rodney, Lisa Ragsdale and husband Philip and Chuck Finley; grandchildren, Christopher Cox, Haley Cox, John Connor Cox, Grant Owens, Wynter and Raine Finley; two brothers, Wiley Roach and wife Sally and Tom Roach and wife Merlene; several nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: J Lee Stringer, her daughter: Renda Santos and her brothers and sisters: Huey Laffoon, Harvey Laffoon, Henry Laffoon, Tennie Price, Thelma Gibbs and Raymond Laffoon. Wake services will be Friday, June 2, 2006, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the First Baptist Church in Rayville, LA under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home. Sis. Emily Harris Perkins was born to the late Monroe Harris, Jr. and Mary Collins Harris on April 4, 1930 in Rayville, LA. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglas Perkins. She was the mother of two; Cynthia Perkins Thornton and Renee Perkins. She accepted Christ as her personal saviour in 1946 at the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. James A. Franklin in Mangham, LA where she served as a faithful member. Mrs. Perkins achieved the following accomplishments in the area of education: a Master's degree from Northeast Louisiana University (ULM); a B.S. Degree from Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA; she received her high school and elementary education from Rayville Rosenwald School and Delhi Training School in Delhi, LA. After receiving her higher education she worked as an educator in the Richland Parish School System for thirty-eight years. As an educator she believed in teaching discipline, respect for yourself and others, as well as teaching Mathematics with much pride, knowledge and determination. She prepared each student for the world of learning and expected them to achieve the unachievable. Some may consider her to be a God sent for the world of Mathematical education. Mrs. Perkins will be dearly missed by many, and was loved and respected by all she came in contact with. Gone, but not forgotten, Glory.

Services for Dr. August G. Danti, 83, of Monroe, LA, will be at 10:00AM, Friday, June 2, 2006, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edmund Moore and Rev. Mark Watson officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. Dr. Danti, Professor Emeritus of the School of Pharmacy at University of Louisiana at Monroe, was born January 26, 1923, in New Eagle, PA, and died May 30, 2006, in Monroe, LA. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and then earned his degree in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1950 and PhD in Pharmacy from Ohio State University in 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Lucia Vecchioli Danti; wife, Tina Dipaola Danti; son, Guy Charles Danti; sister, Lillian Danti Barber; and brother, Dande Danti. Dr. Danti, a registered pharmacist, taught in the Schools of Pharmacy at University of Pittsburgh, Ohio State University, Wayne State University and University of Louisiana at Monroe and retired in 1995. He was a member of numerous professional organizations and held office in most of them. He had received many grants and published numerous papers for scientific and general journals. He gave presentations to both lay and professional groups in drugs of abuse, drug interactions, and drug related topics. Known as the volunteer's volunteer, he was involved with forty-nine different organizations and served on the board of eighteen of them. He kept himself busy by volunteering and serving the community. He served as a volunteer at St. Francis Medical Center and North Monroe Medical Center, as well as St. Vincent DePaul Society and numerous other civic and charitable organizations. Dr. Danti was honored with the A.O. Evans Award from the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce, which is the highest award presented by the chamber. He also received the David C. Silverstein Memorial Civic Award, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce's most prestigious award. Pope John Paul II presented Dr. Danti with the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice Papal Honor for outstanding Catholic life in service to church and community. In 1983, he received the Silver Beaver Award from the Ouachita Valley Boy Scouts of America. He was recognized professionally with the President's Award by Squibb and Sons, Inc. for the presidency of the Louisiana Pharmacists Association and with the Distinguished Teachers and Research Award by Northeast Louisiana University and numerous other awards. He enjoyed music and the arts. He was a concert violinist and served with the Monroe Symphony. He enjoyed working with flowers and gardening. He enjoyed sports and was a track man in his younger days. His philosophy was to help in anyway possible to improve the quality of life of individuals and to teach all that one may serve the Lord if one remembers the Lord's word, "what you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto me." He stated without hesitation that, "what I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my darling mother and to my wife and son who gave me strength and everlasting support." Dr. Danti is survived by one sister, Lena Danti Hudak and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Harold Ratz, Leo Ticheli, Angelo Danna, Mike Nipoli, Timothy Kane, David Cattar and John Guerriero. Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. A Vigil Wake Service will be at 7:00PM.

Funeral services for John Douglas Armstrong, known to his many friends as "Chicken from Rock 106", age 25, of West Monroe, LA, will be 10:00AM, Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop, LA, with the Rev. Bill Fowler officiating. Interment will be at the Carter Cemetery near Collinston, LA, under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop, LA. Visitation for family and friends will be all day Friday until 9:00PM. John was born May 14, 1981 in Bastrop, LA, and was called home to God on May 31, 2006. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Johnny M. Armstrong and maternal grandparents Peter and Margie Holcomb. John was a graduate of West Monroe High School where he lettered in wrestling in 2000. He was a member of the 1997 Louisiana Junior Olympic boxing team and he was honored to have carried the Olympic torch for the 2002 Summer Olympics. He worked as a Deck Hand for Parker Drilling Company of New Iberia, LA. John was a man with a good heart and a kind soul willing to give anything to his family and friends. Surviving John are his parents, Douglas W. Armstrong and Margie Holcomb Armstrong of West Monroe, LA, brother, James D. Eppinette of West Monroe, LA, three nieces, Carson, Carmann, and Sydnee Eppinette, two nephews, Micah and Jace Eppinette, paternal grandmother, Annie Armstrong of Bastrop, LA, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He went to meet his Savior on May 30, 2006 in Columbia, LA. "J. D." spent most of his youth in St. Tammany Parish. He was a resident of Wisner, LA, for forty years. He worked the oilfields and boat manufacturing. For 23 years he owned an antique store in Gilbert, LA. A veteran, he spent his military tour in post WWII Sapporo, Japan. He trained as a paratrooper and made over eighty jumps. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Wisner, LA, where he once served as a Sunday School Teacher. J. D. was an avid football fan of his alma mater, Covington High, the LSU Tigers and his beloved Saints. He is preceded in death by father; Jesse Dealous Booth, mother; Elsie Booth Cotton, sisters; Opal Ingle and Golda Navarre. He is survived by his bride of forty-eight years; Laverne McVay Booth formerly of Wisner, LA, sisters; Myrt Wood of Bethesda, MD and Claire Use of Dallas, TX, brother; Ronald Cotton of Terrytown, LA, daughters; Sharon Williams of West Monroe, LA, Lita Smith and husband, Robert of Liddieville, LA, Yolande Graham and husband, Dennis of Columbia, LA, five grandchildren; Timothy Wallace, April Williams Holcomb, Adam Williams, Julie Graham, and Joseph Graham, one great granddaughter; Lily Holcomb, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Mr. Feazel was born February 6, 1914 in Wilhite, LA and passed away May 31, 2006 in West Monroe, LA. He was a member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Feazel was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was owner and operator of Feazel Well Company for over forty-five years. Mr. Feazel is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Jettie Feazel, daughter, Marie Taylor and husband Bob, son, Bob Feazel and wife Becky, brothers, Byron Feazel , Kerlin Feazel, and Jack M. (Bud) Feazel, sister: Mrs. May Hart and Mrs. Sally Tabitha Iverson, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 3:00PM in the church parlor prior to the service. Mr. Sherrod was born on May 7, 1925, in Jackson, MS. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He received his B.A. from Millsaps College and his LLB from Jackson School of Law. He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Frances Woodside Sherrod and Charles Fox Sherrod, Sr., and his two brothers, Ed and Tom. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Nell McKie Sherrod; daughter, Laura Sherrod Haynie and husband Bob of Shreveport, LA; son, Charles Fox Sherrod, III and wife Sharon of Joplin, MO; grandchildren, Kathryn Haynie, Karen Haynie, Allison Haynie, Madeline Sherrod, Charles Sherrod, IV, and Paul Sherrod; and brother, Robert Sherrod of Jackson, MS. Charlie Sherrod retired from NCR after thirty-five years. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Clifton Flinn Sunday school class. He was past president of the Downtown Lions Club, past president of CCM, and a member of the American Legion. Above all, he was a wonderful husband and dad. Mary Elizabeth Thomas Burt died after a lengthy illness at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly Longleaf Nursing Home in Ruston, LA. She was born April 24, 1924 in Arcadia, LA, to Percy Elgin Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Durrett Thomas. Her husband, Robert E. Burt, Jr. of Simsboro, LA, preceded her in death. Mrs. Burt is survived by one brother, Percy Elgin Thomas, Jr., of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Robert E. Burt, III of Ruston, LA, William Thomas Burt of Simsboro, LA, and one daughter, Joan Marie Burt Edinger of Ruston, LA; grandchildren; Julia Burt Surmmersgill of Ruston, LA, Jennifer Burch of Shreveport, LA, Rebecca Burt Willis of Ruston, LA, William Alexander Burt of Ruston, LA, Anna Marie Edinger and Eva Burt Edinger of Ruston, LA; six great grandchildren; Bankston and Caroline Summersgill of Ruston, LA, Ean, Ava, and Gray Burch of Shreveport, LA, and Jack Willis of Ruston, LA. Mrs. Burt was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Centenary College of Business in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Simsboro, LA. Mrs. Burt was not only a loving mother and grandmother, but one who cherished family including her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a dedicated wife working closely with her husband for fifty years in their family business. Her sweet spirit and love truly has made Heaven a little brighter. George Gerald Jones, loving husband, caring father and true friend to many was born January 26, 1930 and went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 1, 2006. Gerald lived a blessed life, which emphasized love of God, love of family, and love of country. Gerald was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained while serving with the US Army in Inchon, Korea. He was a member of the Northeast LA Chapter 331 of The Military Order Of The Purple Heart. Gerald worked for South Central Bell and AT&T retiring after forty years service. Few people truly loved their work as much as he did. Being an avid deer hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed his retirement, especially fishing at "the camp".
A member of Harmony Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for ten years, Gerald also served two terms as a member of the Franklin Parish School Board during the years 1966-1974. Gerald's parents, George W. Jones and Angie Harper Jones preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carson Jones; children: Lynn J. Hargus & husband Stan; Lisa J. Webb & husband Mike; David K. Jones & wife Monique; Timothy A. Jones & wife Tammy; Kenny Beall & wife Lera; Kim Huntsman & husband Keith; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline J. Toney and Carolyn J. Dr. Geiger, a retired Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, was born July 12, 1932, in Meadville, PA, and died May 31, 2006, in Mobile, AL. He graduated in 1950 from Meadville High School and then briefly attended Temple University. He entered the University of Texas at Austin in 1953 where he was awarded a B.A. in Biology, a B.S. in Pharmacy, a M.S. in Pharmacy, and was ultimately awarded a PhD in Pharmacology in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Geiger and Josephine Kulczycke Geiger; sister; Dorothy Lewis; father-in-law, Rayburn Smith; and mother-in-law, Lillian Hill Smith. Dr. Geiger, a registered pharmacist, taught in the Schools of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin, and at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and retired in 1997. He was a member of numerous professional organizations. He had received many grants and published numerous papers for scientific and general journals based on many years of thorough research. He gave presentations to both lay and professional groups in drugs of abuse, drug interactions, and drug related topics. He enjoyed music and the arts but was particularly fond of any sporting event involving the Texas Longhorns. Dr. Geiger is survived by his sons, Greg Geiger and wife Melissa of Monroe, LA, and Lieutenant Commander Sam Geiger and wife Jana of Fayetteville, NC; his beloved wife Brenda Smith Geiger of Mobile, AL; brother, Fred Geiger and wife Mary of Austin, TX; granddaughters, Jenna Geiger of Monroe, LA, and Mallorie and Madison Geiger of Fayetteville, NC; brother-in-law, Jerry Smith and wife Pam of San Antonio, TX; nieces, Kathy Geiger, Laura Krupicka, and Taryn Smith; nephews, Steve Geiger, and Paul and David Lewis; and his special friend, a cat named Coco credited with once saving his life. He was involved in Social Work for the State of Louisiana for over thirty years where he served as Caseworker in the Foster Care and Child Abuse Agencies; was a Juvenile Probation & Parole Agent and from 1987 until retirement in 2001 was Supervisor of Child Abuse and Neglect, Family Services Department for the Fifth Judicial District Court area in Richland and West Carroll Parishes. He was a member of the Northeast Louisiana Livestock Show serving as a Board Member and Officer for forty-three years. Funeral services for Mrs. Cleo Harris Gaines Hinton age 87 of Olla, La. will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday from the Olla United Methodist Church, in Olla with the Rev. Curtis Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in the Olla Cemetery, Olla, La. Cleo Harris Gaines Hinton was born on October 8, 1919 at Olla, La. to the union of her parents the late J. E. Harris, Sr. & Maud Holloway Harris.She passed from this life on Saturday June 3, 2006 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia. Cleo was married in 1939 to Charles R. Gaines who passed away in 1961. In 1981 she married Eli "Rip" Hinton. He passed from this life in the late ninety's. She had been a resident of the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia since 2002. Cleo helped her parents run the Harris Mercantile Store in Olla for several years and also served as postmistress of the Olla Post Office for four years while her husband Charles was in the Navy during World War II. In 1961 she became postmistress again and served in that position until 1985.Cleo and first husband Charles had two sons, Charles Michael & Robert Lynn. Robert Lynn died in 1986 at age 45. She had four grand children from the union of her son Mike and his wife Alice: Voss, Mary Elizabeth, Porter-Ann & Margaret. Mary Elizabeth died in 1992 at the age of nineteen. Cleo had 3 grand children by her son Lynn and his wife Nell Newsom Gaines: Chris, Nell, and Leiah. Leiah died several years ago. She also had two grandchildren by her son Lynn and his wife Phyllis: Derrick and Patrick. Cleo Died the last of seven children. Her sister Earline died two weeks ago. Cleo was a member of the Olla Cemetery Board, and a member of the Olla United Methodist Church. She was a good friend to all who knew her and was loved by all who knew her. The family will receive visitors on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Riser Funeral Home, main Street 165, Olla, La.

Pete was a man of many God-given talents. He ran the Piney Woods Forge and was one of the last blacksmiths in the state. He spent hours in his yard and garden. He was a welder and worked for Loper Machine Shop, James Machine Shop and Ouachita Machine Shop. He was an ordained Baptist minister having pastored Grace Baptist Church and Hebron Baptist Church. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church. He retired recently as a schoolbus driver of the Caldwell Parish Schools. He also served in the U.S.Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Lane, an avid hunter and fisherman, was born October 8, 1930 in West Monroe, LA and died June 6, 2006 in West Monroe, LA. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and taught the ten-year-olds in Sunday school. He was also a veteran of the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Robert Lane; mother, Lucille Miller Lane; brother, Russell Boyce Lane; and daughter, Sarah Lane McCarter. Ralph Lane spent twenty years in Louisiana Public Education as a teacher, administrator and coach. He began his football career while attending Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA. He earned two varsity letters in football and three in track. In 1948, he was captain of the football team and named the Most Valuable Player. He attended Louisiana College in Pineville on a football scholarship earning four varsity letters and never missing a game in the four years he played. In 1952, he was named captain of the team and was named to the All Gulf States Defensive Team. While at Louisiana College, he also lettered in baseball and track. Lane's coaching career began at LaGrange High School in Lake Charles in 1953. He assisted with football, basketball and track before being named head track coach in 1960. In 1963, he and his family moved to Denham Springs High School where Lane became the head football coach. Lane became an assistant football coach at Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) in 1964 when Dixie White became the head football coach. He was head tennis coach from 1965 until 1969. He was at NLSC (ULM) until 1972, when he became head football coach at Wossman High School in Monroe, LA. After retirement from public education, Lane entered private business. He volunteered his time and talents to assisting and coaching Little League Baseball teams. He was recognized for his long term service to the high ideals he instilled in his team members and the exemplary life he lived before them and as a former LC sports star, he was honored at the Tenth Annual Louisiana College Former Athletes Banquet in 1994 with induction into the Louisiana College Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ann Walden Lane; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton Ralph and Marianne Lane and Robert Henry and Paula Lane; grandchildren, Ann-Riley Lane, Robert Lane, and Jessica Rae Johnson of Houston, TX; and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Jerry Ross of Lake Charles, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Moyers of Naples, Florida; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Alison Moyers, and their children Meredith Edward L. Moyers, Jr., 77, formerly of Ruston, died Monday, June 5, 2006 in Naples, Florida. Mr. Moyers was born to Edward L. Moyers and Lucille Lewis Moyers on October 3, 1928 near Meridian, Mississippi. He was reared in Vicksburg and was a 1947 graduate of Chamberlain-Hunt Military Academy in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He served in the United States Navy in the Korean War. He was a 1955 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. Mr. Moyers had a long and distinguished career in the railroad industry, mainly with the Illinois Central Railroad in Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky and Illinois. In 1985, he became President and C.E.O. of MidSouth Rail Corporation in Jackson. In 1989, he was named President and C.E.O. of Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago, Illinois, serving until 1993. Following a short retirement, he became President and C.E.O. of Southern Pacific Railway in Denver, Colorado in 1993, a position he held until 1995. After retirement, he continued to be active in the railroad business, overseeing the management and construction of two Brazilian rail projects. He was also a former member of the Board of Trustees of Millsaps College and the Board of Directors of Deposit Guaranty National Bank. He served as Chairman of Louisiana Tech's Centennial Development Program, and received the Tower Medallion for permanent recognition as a distinguished alumni. In 1989, he received the Jackson Journal of Business Captain of Industry Award and in 1995 he was named Railway Age Magazine's Railroader of the Year. He was a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida. Charles Dupree and Rev. Werner Aswell officiating. Interment will follow in the Twin Cities Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Antley died on June 7, 2006 at the Ridgecrest Nursing Home in West Monroe, LA. She was a member of the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA, where she was always active in the Keenager's Group. Mrs. Antley is preceded in death by her husband, Myatt D.
