She survived her late husband, Abbie Lloyd Bacon, Sr. and daughter, Doris Bacon Bray Dickinson. Daisy was outstanding academically, and was class valedictorian in both grammar and high school, the latter being Central in Franklin Parish. At 5' 3" and 110 pounds she was a varsity member of Central's basketball team and she remained this size throughout her adult life. A retired bookkeeper, Daisy was a member of First Baptist Church for over seventy years and many of her local friendships date back to the 1930's. Her remarkable organizational skills permitted her to: cook splendid meals for her family each day, keep a spotless house, maintain large flower and vegetable gardens, make her own clothes and provided quality time for her friends and family while she was employed full time, effortlessly and in good humor. Daisy Bacon drew pleasure from many sources which included reading, dancing, music, traveling, spending time with her friends, canning and cooking. However the most important part of her life was by far, her relationship with her family. As matriarch of her large network of kinsmen, she was a rich source of information on past generations and she gladly shared her knowledge of family with others. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Few who knew this remarkable woman will ever forget her. Daisy maintained an active and independent life until her stroke. She lived alone, kept her house and garden beautifully and drove her own automobile. A few minutes before her fatal seizure, she stated that she was feeling better than she had in months. She had slept well the night before and had curled her lovely white hair.
