MY mother passed away on JUNE the eleven
I loved her deeply; now she's simply gone.
ALL my life I'D know that
I was loved,
I can't believe her love
is not somewhere,
SO strong it was, so much as part of me.
I feel it in the harsh
salt of the sea
AND in the stinging sadness of the wind
I ride the waves along the rock-strewn shore.
NO one watch watches me with fear and pride.
NOW among the stars
I am alone.
IN her heart I had
my only home
BROTHER MILLARD DEAN LEE
Miller Funeral Home - Monroe, LA
Brother Millard Dean Lee was born on August 22, 1944, to the union of the late
Mrs. Marguerite Delores "Doll Baby" Jackson Paster and William "Zeke"
Lee. He was the fourth of "Doll Baby's" five boys. "Dean",
as he was affectionately called, was predeceased by his grandfather - the Reverend
A.S. Jackson, Sr., his grandmother (who had a strong hand in rearing him) -Mrs.
Irene May Jackson, his uncles - Reverend J.D. Jackson, Reverend A.S. Jackson,
Jr., Brother Leo Jackson, Brother Milton Jackson, and Brother Millard Jackson
(for whom he was named). "Dean's" aunt (Sister Cleo Jackson Smith)
also departed this life before him. Millard Dean accepted Christ as his personal
savior at a young age under the guidance of his grandfather ("Papa").
"Dean was a faithful member of The Rose of Sharon Baptist Church wherein
he was a teacher of the Adult Sunday School class, chairman of the youth ministry,
song leader of the Sunday School, and devout member of the choir. Under his
watchful eye, the annual scholarship program was conceived and born. On an annual
basis, "Dean" organized "A Gathering of Real Men" as a spiritual
moment of atonement for all men. Indeed, "Dean" loved the church.
Millard Dean was a positive fixture and shining light in the community, and
he was employed at Riverwood International (Graphic Packaging) for over thirty
years at Plant 31. Everyone knew of his undying love and loyalty for his alma
mater - Carroll High School. Never has there been a more dedicated "Bulldog
Man" than Millard Dean Lee. As such, "Dean" served as president
of the Carroll High School Alumni Association and was "the voice of the
Bulldog's" football games for many years. Student and adult fans, alike,
loved to hear "Mr. Lee" announce when his team made a touchdown. "Dean"
loved Carroll and the students and faculty loved him, too. "Dean"
was a member and past president of the Renaissance Committee, a member of the
Lions Club, and n official with the Louisiana High School Basketball and Football
Association and the Monroe High School Athletic Association. Millard Dean was
a member of the Grambling State University Tailgate Club. After graduating from
Carroll High School in 1963, "Dean" received a football scholarship
to Bishop College in Dallas, Texas. However, his sweetheart was at Grambling
College. Needless to say, he soon transferred to Grambling where he majored
in speech and theater under Dr. Allen Williams. Dean was a thirty-second degree
Mason through Moses Lodge 19.
On July 16, 1964, "Dean" was united in holy matrimony to Sister Robert
Jean "Bobbie" Winters Lee. To this union, three daughters (whom "Dean"
referred to as his "three jewels") were born Tazinski Patriece, Tammy
Deon, and Tafferny Detriceon. "Dean" loved and cherished his wife
and daughters. It was often said that he spent more money on education than
anyone in Louisiana. Nothing was too good for his girls, and all three made
him proud. He often said he had the most caring and sweetest wife in the world.
"Dean" is survived by his wife of forty-one years - Robert Jean Lee,
his "three jewels" - Tazinski P. Lee of Itta Bena, Mississippi, Tammy
D. Lee and Tafferny D. Lee of Monroe, Louisiana, a son-in-law - Dewitt D. Sheridan,
four brothers - Dr. Bobby J. Saucer (Eloise) of Decatur, Georgia, Dr. Leo Saucer
(Audrey) of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Anderson S. Jackson (Renee) of Monroe,
Louisiana, and William Caleb Paster (Barbara) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a
mother in law - Mrs. Annie Mae Burrell, two brothers-in-law, Mack Winters and
Roy Winters, a godson - Brandon Keith Jackson, an "adopted" son -
George W. Britton, III, a special caretaker — Master Kessley Malik McNeal
of Dallas, Texas, adopted sisters - Brenda, Patricia, and Lela, several nieces
and nephews, cousins, and the entire Jackson family.
