"Pappy" was born December 6, 1931 in Dalhart, Texas and passed away in West Monroe, LA on Saturday July 29, 2006. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun. He was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Ricky Lamar Blakely. He was a member of St. Paschal's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Mr. Govang was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in Bougainville and Guadalcanal. He was very active in the Little Theatre and enjoyed performing for the Young Stage. Mr. Govang was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Rick Crandall officiating. Burial will be in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Mr. Berry died on July 31, 2006 at the Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe, LA after a lengthy illness. He was an engineer with the Arkansas and Louisiana, Missouri Railroad for thirty years. Mr. Berry served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He loved to cook. He also was a 32 degree Mason and former Past Master of the Graham Surghnor Masonic Lodge # 383. Mr. Berry is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beth Monroe Berry; daughter, Dianne Berry Greer; and his parents, Orlean and William Gray Berry. After she and Mr. Sutton returned to Monroe from serving in the military, Mrs. Sutton served as the church hostess at College Place Baptist Church for many years. She was also the food service manager at Sherrouse Elementary School for 14 years beginning in 1964. Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William C. He spent much of his time hunting and fishing with his family and his many friends and enjoyed the beauty of the Harrisonburg Hill till the end. He was a devoted husband, and caring father and a loving grandfather. Officiating will be Rev Johnie Adkins and Rev James Miller. Interment will be at the Beech Grove cemetery. Mr. Colvin was a member of Beech Grove Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War where he served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. He was an alderman and the mayor of Spearsville, and a volunteer fireman. He was the president of the Union Parish Tri-ad of Spearsville. He was an avid gardener who always grew more than he could use and would share with all of the community. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He was a little league baseball coach for many years. One of his hobbies included genealogy which he published books of his ancestors and related families. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert "Bob" and Ora Mae Colvin, a brother A.B. Colvin and a sister Irma Colvin House. Mrs. Gardner was born on August 21, 1907, in Bassfield, Miss., but lived in Gilbert since 1938, where she and her husband farmed the Franklin Parish soil and raised their only daughter. Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Eris K Gardner; daughter, Bonnie Iris Fuqua; sister, Violet Carruth, and a brother, Forrest Hatton. LUCILLE KEITH MCNAIR Born in 1913 in Sallis, MS, Lucille Keith McNair died on August 1, 2006 at home in St. Helena, CA. Lucille attended Baptist Bible Institute (now New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary), where she met her future husband, James O. McNair, of Baskin. The couple moved to Jonesville in 1941, where James was pastor of the First Baptist Church for 40 years. Lucille served in numerous capacities in the church, was state president and national vice president of Woman's Missionary Union, and was a member of the Executive Board of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. After retirement, she worked alongside her husband for 15 years with African-American National Baptist congregations in northeast-central Louisiana. She was predeceased by her husband, James O. McNair, of Jonesville, and by her parents, Elijah Sanders Keith and Olivia Bell Armstrong Keith, and her brother, Sanford Keith, all of Jackson, MS. Lucille is survived by her son, James McNair, and his partner, Andrew Moore, of Napa, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Martha McNair and John Richardson, of St. Helena, CA; and her two grandsons, Devereux McNair and Ryan Richardson of St. Helena. Mr. Ward was born April 9, 1925 in Calhoun, LA and passed away August 9, 2006 in West Monroe, LA. Mr. Ward died after a long courageous battle with emphysema. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Mamie Ward; sister, Alice Bell Clark; Kathy and Lynn's mother, Ruth Ward, two brothers; Bill Lowery and Lavelle Ward; one step-daughter, Sue Womack Belin; and one granddaughter, Kristy Womack Meredith. Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Etta; one son, Ronnie Ward and wife Karen; two daughters, Kathy Greene of West Jefferson, NC, Lynn Caples and husband Pete of West Monroe, LA; sister, Nellie McCarty of West Monroe, LA; one step-son, Gary Womack and wife Sharon, one step-daughter, Tina Powell both of West Monroe, LA; two special grandsons, David Evans and wife Natalie of McDonough, GA, Jason Evans and wife Beth of Boise, ID, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, George Forcht and wife Mary Ann of Tampa, FL, Charles Forcht and wife Wanda of Vancouver, WA, sister-in-law, Margaret Ward of Clear Lake Oaks, CA and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Frank was a member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
