June 10, 2005 - Obituaries from the News-Star, Monroe, Louisiana 71201

CATHERINE "NANNIE" HAIR
Broussard's Mortuary - Silsbee, Texas
Tribute to a Praying
Grandmother
My dear Nannie passed from this life at 10:15 A.M. June 8, 2005. Death appears to be so final and cruel. However, as painful and inevitable as death may be, death is not a conqueror, it is a defeated foe. My dad often says, "One thing death cannot steal is your memories or your testimony." So I would like to share a few of the rich treasures that my Nannie has left behind.
Allowed only a limited education, my Nannie earned a masters degree in hard work and sacrifice. Forced to stay at home at age nine when her mother died, she raised her younger siblings and supported her family. Nannie was a picture of sacrifice and she lovingly raised her five children, along with numerous other children. Nannie not only instilled the values of hard work and a love for the outdoors in her children, but she also made sure that her children received the most important gift of all, the love and respect for Almighty God.
My Nannie was a praying lady. The Kingdom of God was preeminent in her life. Prayer was her constant companion. Serving others, whether ministers, service men, relatives or needy families, was a way of life for her. Nannie made excellence her standard, either in Sunday School and fundraising drives or baking blackberry cobblers. Nannie was driven to be her best. Nannie's ever fervent prayer still rings loudly in my ears..."God, whatever it takes, save my children and my grandchildren." Nannie, thank you for the legacy that you have given. I intend to see you in Heaven soon. So Death, laugh while you may, because you will not last long. My Nannie's spirit is already now skipping on the clouds of glory, waiting for that glad reunion day." I Corinthians 15:55,57 "Oh Death, where is thy sting? Oh, Grave, where is thy victory? But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Jon Hair
