the Life Preserver (Christ's finished work on the cross).
Two friends went for a boat ride in a swift deep river. Without warning the boat turned over. The man to whom the boat belonged had taken two life jackets along. Later he reported, "I put one on, but my friend laid his down beside him. When we were thrown into the river, my life jacket soon brought me to the top, but my friend never came up again." Christ's death, like the life jacket, will not save you unless, by faith in Him, you put it on.
All of us deserve to die for our sins, but God has provided deliverance from sin's penalty in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. Receiving God's free gift is as simple as ABC.
A
Acknowledge that you have sinned.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
B
Believe that Jesus death, burial and resurrection paid your sin debt.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be delivered..." (Acts 16:31)
"...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9
C
Confess and forsake your sin.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
"...the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
