Comments: I lived in Ruston 20 years, and let me tell you, despite their public holier than thou attitude, never in my life have as seen as many closeted drunks as I have seen in this town--and boy, they sure seem to have very liberal attitudes about underage drinking, which explains a lot of terrible tragedies involving teens and drunken driving.

Comments: First & foremost; a huge THANK YOU to Amber! She was a God-send of an angel while traveling through Louisiana. After having supper, in town, I had to find a place to camp for the night where someone would not bother me. Usually there are schools, churches, or a business that is isolated where I can hide enough to feel safe. The more I rode the more things looked desperate. So I pulled up to this house west of town, not knowing what kind of family I would meet, saw the car and basketball goal. Now this could be okay; a family with a young son that likes basketball and a nicely maintained yard. So, I knocked and waited for someone to answer and Amber came out. She did not make any preconceived decisions, just listened to my request, to use the back yard to camp and bathe under the water hose. After she asked for some I.D. (2 given) she said okay and would be out to help unload my bike shortly. When she came back, holding half gallon of ice water, she mentioned I could come inside for a hot bath. WOW. I was knocked off my feet with that surprise! The water was a wonderful thing and now she offers a hot bath. What was she thinking, I told her she could not be serious and I must be dreaming? Well, she says, since you are a retired USAF I think I can trust you and I'm a Police office with loaded guns and police radio, it will be okay. She really wasn't sure why she offered, just felt it would a good thing to do.
So, I would like for her boss and coworkers know she helped a man in need, on his way to see his children in Oklahoma, that could not ever say THANK YOU enough. She is my Angel sent to look over me. Thank you Lord. And THANK YOU Amber!
If I have a chance to come through Ruston again, I would like to stop by and see how she is doing and tell her again THANK YOU.

Comments: some of your officers would benefit from some kind of training in self control. they seem a little eager to cuff and stuff teenagers just because they mouth off. i agree that an officer of the law should be respected because it is a dangerous and sometimes thankless job. but they should be able to distinguish a dangerous person from a kid who doesn't yet have the self control to hold his tongue.

my dad and stepmom live on hwy80east there, he works for wilamette (wearhouser) at lily -- a shame it is shutting down.
my uncle, edward sawyer, is a la weights and standards officer, who lives at rocky branch.
my brother in law is an officer in the alexandria-seiper-leander-flatwoods area, by the name of Jerry Norris
i have 4 sons, 16, 14, 13, and 11 and to me an officer of the law or a serviceman ranks right up there with preachers, missionaries, music ministers and youth ministers, who have servant hearts. i wouldn't mind my sons making those choices for their lives.
