ABOUT

The mission of the Monroe Symphony Orchestra is to provide live, symphonic music of high artistic quality for the education and enjoyment of the people of Northeast Louisiana and the region.

For over a third of a century, The Monroe Symphony Orchestra has provided live, symphonic music of high artistic quality for the education and enjoyment of the people of Northeast Louisiana. The Symphony's artistic goals have included collaboration with other local and regional arts groups, bringing artists of national reputation to the community, providing opportunities for recognition of talented young Louisiana artists, and seeking to reach out into the community with concerts that appeal to all segments of the population.

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1971, was organized as a community orchestra. The subscription season, presented from November through May, consists of two classical concerts, a holiday concert, a winter “Pops” concert, and a family outdoor concert. The Young Artists Competition, held annually in January, is a state-wide competition that is sponsored by the Monroe Symphony League. As a viable and highly visible part of the arts community, the MSO also contributes to the cultural development of Northeast Louisiana, by bringing notable conductors and artists of national and international renown to perform with the some 60- member orchestra. An educational concert; a mid-season, non-subscription concert; run-out concerts in rural communities in North Louisiana round out the organization's annual offerings.

During this 38th season, the MSO continues to bring the best of symphonic music to our community with its subscription series. Tickets are available at the MSO office in the Monroe Civic Center Arena office area. Tickets are NO longer available through Ticket Master, but can be purchased directly from the MSO. You may purchase your tickets with your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card. Most classical subscription concerts are performed at the Monroe Civic Center Theatre. The annual Pops Concert is held in the Monroe Civic Center Arena, and the Family Concert is held at Kiroli Park (rain West Monroe Convention Center) and is at 6 P.M. The other concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The concerts are recorded for rebroadcast during the summer months on KEDM 90.3 FM Public Radio station.

A Monroe Symphony Orchestra subscription gives you more than a series of concerts; it gives you an exciting music education. The MSO is excited to have Dr Deborah Chandler provide you with "Classical Conversations" during each of the Classical Concerts, which will provide you with interesting, educational comments about the selections of music that are being played.
