How to Delete Temporary Internet Files

The Temporary Internet Files (usually known as "cache") folder is the location on your hard drive where web pages and files (such as graphics) are stored as you view them. Internet Explorer opens these web pages and files directly from your hard drive instead of from the Web, which allows you to quickly view pages and files that you frequently visit or have already seen. Deleting these files can increase the amount of space available for other files on your computer.

To delete the Temporary Internet Files (called the "cache") in Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x:

  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The Internet Options window will display.

  2. In the Temporary Internet files section of the General tab, click the Delete Files... button. The Delete Files pop-up window will appear.

  3. In the Delete Files pop-up window, check the Delete all offline content checkbox if you wish to delete all offline content from your computer.

  4. Click the OK button.

  5. In the Internet Options window, click the OK button.
